SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS: Music & Graphic Design

Easter Riverina Arts & HEAPS DECENT Present
School Holiday Workshops

Eastern Riverina Arts is proud to partner with HEAPS DECENT to deliver a series of free creative workshops for young people during the upcoming school holidays. The workshops invite young creatives from across the Eastern Riverina to explore Music Production and Graphic Design through hands-on, collaborative sessions designed to spark creativity and build new skills.

Music Production Workshop
Wednesday 15th April, 9:30am to 11:30am
Cost: FREE.
Must register to secure your spot.

In this inspiring hands-on workshop participants will work with a professional music producer to write and record an original song of their own. Using Ableton Live software and a range of other tools participants explore technology and an incredible library of sound to compose their own unique work. They write and record lyrics, tap out rhythms and orchestrate big melodies. From Hip Hop to Dance (and anything in between) this medium truly resonates with people of all ages, and they do not need any musical experience or skills to engage fully.

The workshop is a great way to encourage creative communication and confidence, and inspire positivity and team building within groups. It brings together auditory and kinaesthetic learning in an exciting session.

An Intro into Graphic Design Workshop
Wednesday 15th April, 9:30am to 11:30am
Cost: FREE.
Must register to secure your spot.

This hands-on workshop is open to people of all ages and skill levels - no prior design experience needed. Whether you’re completely new to graphic design or already experimenting with creative ideas, this session is designed to meet you where you’re at. With a focus on logo design, we’ll explore the full creative process, from developing ideas and sketching concepts to refining designs and preparing them for print. You’ll learn how designers think, experiment, and turn rough ideas into polished visuals. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clearer understanding of graphic design fundamentals and the confidence to keep creating.

The free workshops provide an opportunity for young people to engage with professional creative practitioners, explore new forms of artistic expression and build confidence in a supportive environment.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE: "Home Among the Gum Trees"

School Holiday Performance:
“Home Among the Gum Trees”

Friday 17th of April at 11am
Doors open at 10:30am
Presented by Gerard Cafe

“Home among the Gum Trees” is a one-man show with Australiana themes, designed for family audiences, which makes for great school-holiday entertainment. With an elaborate set and plenty of props, the show draws on our history to reflect on all of the elements that make Australia a good home. The crowd interaction flows thick and fast as people, usually children, are chosen from the audience to participate in the action on stage, bringing to life scenes from our nation’s past.

Gerard Cafe began singing bush ballads and calling bush dances over thirty years ago. Scenarios were developed that involved on-stage audience participation, and a one-hour presentation called “Australian Folklore” toured to schools around Australia for over 10 years. Over time a second show called “To Federation and Beyond” was developed, then a third show “We’re all Australians now”. This led to a total of seventeen years of touring, bringing history, education and entertainment to school children around Australia, especially in regional areas. Elements of these shows have been brought together in this new presentation, “Home Among the Gum Trees.”

TICKETS: $15 Adults / $10 Children / $13 Seniors
Tickets are available via TACC during office hours (1pm - 4pm Tues, Wed & Thurs - cash or card)
OR Purchase Tickets online via the button below.
NOTE: This option is only available up until an hour before the show is scheduled to start.

“What an exceptionally high-quality performance, Gerard was outstanding in every way. His material and set up is to be commended. Our Kids really enjoyed the concert, and everyone came away singing and more informative of our Folklore. Top marks from us, can’t wait to see show again next year.” - Majella Burns, Dawesville Public School. W.A.

“Considering the wide range of ages for our students, the show was engaging for all. Very well presented and interactive. Great Show!” - Norah, Eidsvold State School, Qld.

“Well organised, enthusiastic, fabulous props” - Mary Anne, Villa Maria Primary School, Hunters Hill, NSW

Patrick James - Live in Concert

Friday 8th of May at 7pm
Doors open at 6:30pm

Experience an intimate evening of songs and stories with Patrick James — an Australian singer-songwriter whose heartfelt sound and honest storytelling have taken him across Australia, Europe, and the UK.

After a huge run of Australian and European shows throughout 2024, including headline dates and festival appearances across Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and the UK, Patrick is back home and shifting his focus toward a new and very special chapter: regional hall concerts across Australia.

Wanting to reconnect with audiences in a more personal way, Patrick is building a touring cycle centred around small towns, community spaces, and atmospheric listening rooms — creating concerts that feel intimate, meaningful and truly unique.

With multiple albums, millions of streams, and a reputation for warm, emotionally rich performances, Patrick continues to grow a dedicated global audience. His latest record, Glory Days (2024), follows the acclaimed I’ll Take Care of Myself, If You Take Care of Yourself (2022), described by Atwood Magazine as “bold and beautifully timeless” for its emotional depth and craftsmanship.

Over more than a decade of touring, Patrick has shared stages with Boy & Bear, Pete Murray, Josh Pyke, The Paper Kites, Dope Lemon, and Bear’s Den, and has reached listeners worldwide through songs such as “Grateful” — a Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition finalist that featured prominently in Channel 7’s Olympic Games coverage.

Patrick’s regional hall shows create a quiet, candlelit atmosphere where the music and stories take centre stage — offering something distinctly different from traditional venue touring.

Join Patrick James for a rare, one-night-only performance — an intimate, heartfelt concert in a beautiful regional setting.

PERFORMANCE: The King's Songbook

  • The Arts Centre Cootamundra (map)

Live Performance
Saturday 17th of October at 7:30pm
Doors Open 6:30pm

THE KING’S SONGBOOK is a concert celebration of the music and legacy of Elvis Presley, performed by Daniel Aranda and his incredible backing band, The Midnight Pulse. Spanning Elvis’s career from his earliest Sun Records recordings through to his iconic Vegas years, this electrifying live show brilliantly captures the energy and emotion that made him a global icon.

Daniel has recently recorded with the legendary Charlie McCoy in Nashville on a cover of Elvis’ 1965 classic, So Close, Yet So Far Away, which Charlie himself originally played on, lending this show an authenticity that few Elvis tribute experiences can match. That same track also features Elvis’ former percussionist, Alex Acuña, and will be performed live by Daniel and the band at this very special one-night-only event.

Audiences will be swept away by rockers like Burning Love, That’s Alright Mama, and Jailhouse Rock, heartfelt ballads such as Love Me Tender and Always On My Mind, as well as rarer, often overlooked cuts. With impeccable musicianship, world-class arrangements, and Daniel’s commanding vocals, this is a show for both die-hard Elvis fans and lovers of timeless music, crafting a unique live journey through the songs that shaped generations.

PERFORMANCE: Darren Coggan "Fire & Rain: The James Taylor Songbook"

Darren Coggan Presents

Sunday 15th of March at 3pm

1970, it’s the dawn of a new era, the era of the singer-songwriter and James Taylor is crowned its king. Every time you turned on the radio, you couldn’t escape the soothing, intensely personal reflections, of a song called ‘Fire & Rain’.

Multi award winning performer, Darren Coggan, takes us on an eloquent journey through the songbook of one of the most magnetic figures in the music world, a modern-day troubadour, who channeled his self-destructive impulses into some of the most memorable songs of our time; How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You, Country Road, Carolina In My Mind, Sweet Baby James, You’ve Got A Friend, Shower The People, Fire & Rain and many more.

“For over fifty years, James Taylor’s songs have resonated with people everywhere” said Darren, His rich baritone voice is comforting, familiar, warm and friendly but it is much more than the voice. He is a superb storyteller, whose songs are enduringly relevant and speak to millions of people in a very personal way. James Taylors’ songs testify to the beauty and redemptive power of music”

Re-live the voice of a generation, in a celebration of one of the most inspiring and prolific singer songwriters of our time, remarkably re-created live, by Darren Coggan.

“Coggan’s musical story-telling is outstanding, as is his singing and playing."

Alison Patterson presents "A Celebration of Live Music"

”A Celebration of Live Music”

An afternoon of live musical performances by talented locals!
2:30pm Sunday 23rd of November 2025
Doors Open at 2pm

Enjoy a delightful afternoon of live music featuring Alison’s students who will play piano, flute, trumpet and euphonium, as well as the stunning sounds of the Cootamundra Town Band Inc and the Cootamundra Community Choir.

A brief outline of the programme:

  • MacKenzie Bird has been learning trumpet for 5 years now and will play 2 pieces, one rock style, the other by Leonard Bernstein, Minstrel Parade from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Both catchy tunes!

  • Kay Bird on flute (in her 9th year!) will also play 2 pieces. One is a Dixieland Jazz style (with a modern flavour) requiring a bright happy mood, with a challenging improvisation example, written by an Australian, Kerin Bailey. Kay’s 2nd piece is also a fun piece.

  • A newcomer this year is John McGrath, but a veteran on the piano!

  • To round off my students is MacKenzie again, but on his own euphonium now! He began learning the euphonium 17 years ago through the band! A very challenging 2 movement piece, for both performer and accompanist! MacKenzie liked the sound of this piece as he thought it was in a modern style. The composer was born in 1853!

  • The town band enjoys a mix of young, middle and older members! We treasure those who also travel from Junee. Ben has moved from piano to the percussion adding a special zing to the playing. We can call ourselves a concert band again with a mix of woodwind, brass and percussion! The band will play 5 pieces including May It Be from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, You’ll Be In My Heart from Tarzan and the theme song from BLUEY!

  • Our finale piece will further showcase the talented voice of Julie Cowell with her daughter, Eliza and friend, Leila, dancing the story of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polkadot Bikini!

What a feast for the ears! A concert NOT to be missed!!

Tickets: $20 Adults and $2 Students.
$2 for Registered Companion with ticket purchasing guest.

Ticket price includes Afternoon Tea which will be served at the end of the performance.
The TACC Bar will be open before and after the show to purchase a beer, wine or softdrink.

This amazing afternoon of music is a fundraiser for TACC!

Tickets are available via TACC during office hours (1pm - 4pm Tues, Wed & Thurs) OR at the door

Bring along your own projects including any materials needed - drawing, painting, sculpture, paint pouring, clay, weaving, etc. You are welcome to bring your own snacks or lunch. Tea and coffee available @ TACC.

Create & chat @ TACC! Bring along your own art project and enjoy up to 3 hours of uninterrupted creative time. This is not a workshop, but the opportunity to work on your art with a friendly group of people in a space designed specifically for creative arts.

The Visual Arts Studio will be open for 'messy' art (painting, sculpture, paint pouring, clay, natural dyeing, etc) and the adjoining Meeting Room will be open for less messy art (drawing, sewing, crochet, spinning, tapestry, knitting, colouring, scrap booking, etc). With a bit of notice, there is also the opportunity to learn how to use the Etching Press. Bring your own materials. We only ask no noisy machines (if it’s quiet it’s ok!).

You are welcome to bring your own snacks or dinner. Tea and coffee making facilities are available.

If you would like to start with a tour of the facilities, please send an email and we can arrange a time for you to come in and have a look around. Or if you're ready to get involved, please send an email with the date you are hoping to start and a contact phone number. Email: info@theartscentrecootamundra.org.au
