Alison Patterson presents "A Celebration of Live Music"

”A Celebration of Live Music”

An afternoon of live musical performances by talented locals!
2:30pm Sunday 23rd of November 2025
Doors Open at 2pm

Enjoy a delightful afternoon of live music featuring Alison’s students who will play piano, flute, trumpet and euphonium, as well as the stunning sounds of the Cootamundra Town Band Inc and the Cootamundra Community Choir.

A brief outline of the programme:

  • MacKenzie Bird has been learning trumpet for 5 years now and will play 2 pieces, one rock style, the other by Leonard Bernstein, Minstrel Parade from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Both catchy tunes!

  • Kay Bird on flute (in her 9th year!) will also play 2 pieces. One is a Dixieland Jazz style (with a modern flavour) requiring a bright happy mood, with a challenging improvisation example, written by an Australian, Kerin Bailey. Kay’s 2nd piece is also a fun piece.

  • A newcomer this year is John McGrath, but a veteran on the piano!

  • To round off my students is MacKenzie again, but on his own euphonium now! He began learning the euphonium 17 years ago through the band! A very challenging 2 movement piece, for both performer and accompanist! MacKenzie liked the sound of this piece as he thought it was in a modern style. The composer was born in 1853!

  • The town band enjoys a mix of young, middle and older members! We treasure those who also travel from Junee. Ben has moved from piano to the percussion adding a special zing to the playing. We can call ourselves a concert band again with a mix of woodwind, brass and percussion! The band will play 5 pieces including May It Be from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, You’ll Be In My Heart from Tarzan and the theme song from BLUEY!

  • Our finale piece will further showcase the talented voice of Julie Cowell with her daughter, Eliza and friend, Leila, dancing the story of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polkadot Bikini!

What a feast for the ears! A concert NOT to be missed!!

Tickets: $20 Adults and $2 Students.
$2 for Registered Companion with ticket purchasing guest.

Ticket price includes Afternoon Tea which will be served at the end of the performance.
The TACC Bar will be open before and after the show to purchase a beer, wine or softdrink.

This amazing afternoon of music is a fundraiser for TACC!

ABOUT ALLY:
ALLY’s music is drawn from Afro-Peruvian, Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Andalusian traditional rhythms paired with a modern jazz aesthetic and spoken word. ALLY is a fabulous concoction of ideas that take musical shape by artists who work seamlessly together to explore new grooves and journey with the audience to new lands. PERFORMANCE: Darren Coggan "Fire & Rain: The James Taylor Songbook"

Darren Coggan Presents
”Fire & Rain: The James Taylor Songbook”

Sunday 15th of March at 3pm

1970, it’s the dawn of a new era, the era of the singer-songwriter and James Taylor is crowned its king. Every time you turned on the radio, you couldn’t escape the soothing, intensely personal reflections, of a song called ‘Fire & Rain’.

Multi award winning performer, Darren Coggan, takes us on an eloquent journey through the songbook of one of the most magnetic figures in the music world, a modern-day troubadour, who channeled his self-destructive impulses into some of the most memorable songs of our time; How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You, Country Road, Carolina In My Mind, Sweet Baby James, You’ve Got A Friend, Shower The People, Fire & Rain and many more.

“For over fifty years, James Taylor’s songs have resonated with people everywhere” said Darren, His rich baritone voice is comforting, familiar, warm and friendly but it is much more than the voice. He is a superb storyteller, whose songs are enduringly relevant and speak to millions of people in a very personal way. James Taylors’ songs testify to the beauty and redemptive power of music”

Re-live the voice of a generation, in a celebration of one of the most inspiring and prolific singer songwriters of our time, remarkably re-created live, by Darren Coggan.

“Coggan’s musical story-telling is outstanding, as is his singing and playing."

WORKSHOP
Basket Weaving
with Aunty Barbara Walker

Saturday 6th of September, 10am to 2pm

Weaving is one of the most complex and sophisticated examples of First Nations technology and culture. It produces objects of beauty, and the process itself has deep cultural significance. Weaving is a way to share knowledge, connect to people and country, invite mindfulness, and much more.

Immerse yourself in First Nations culture through this weaving workshop where you will connect with Barb, learn about her Country and traditions, while weaving a beautiful and unique artifact.

In this relaxed class, Barb, a Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga NSW, will teach you how to create your very own woven art. You will learn traditional basket and coil weaving techniques, gaining a deeper appreciation of First Nations culture, while engaging with fellow students.

By the end of the workshop, you will leave with your own woven artifact and the skills to finish your art at home if necessary.

About Aunty Barb: “For all of my life I have been a ‘crafting’ woman. I have always loved working with fibre, from knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, scrapbooking, card making and weaving. Whether it was the daisies in the front lawn, the long stringy bark off the trees or the long grasses around the home dam, I have always weaved. I began to concentrate on my weaving about 15 years ago, whilst on a visit to Wagga Wagga and meeting with aunties at the local 'Hands On Weavers' group. Simply sitting, weaving, and yarning with other crafters gives so much balance back into the day. It is such a pleasurable craft to do and when using natural fibres that I have gathered myself, it makes it even more special. When I am unable to gather natural fibre, I use a mixture of man-made fibres that are available."

Visit Aunty Barb’s website for more information: www.barbsweaving.com.au

Cost: $85pp
This includes all materials and morning tea. Please bring your own lunch.

Bookings Essential by 12noon on Thursday 28th of August.

Matt Arthur & The Lazybones Presents
”Six String Blues”

Thursday 4th of September at 7:30pm

Step into the world of Six String Blues — A heartfelt tribute to the Blues Guitar.

From the melodies of Delta icons like Robert Johnson to the soul-stirring sounds of Chicago legends such as Muddy Waters, and into the electrifying licks of modern maestros like Eric Clapton and John Mayer, this show bridges generations of blues brilliance.

On stage, Matt Arthur—backed by the talented Lazybones—delivers a performance that’s as moving as it is masterful. Through his soulful playing and captivating stage presence, Matt brings the timeless legends of blues guitar to life, blending nostalgia with fresh energy.

The show also highlights Matt’s personal journey with the blues. In 2024, he released his latest album Then & Now, a collection of original songs that explore his past and present. Drawing on the rich legacy of blues to shape his own voice, Matt weaves selections from this album into the performance, illustrating the profound influence the genre has had on his songwriting.

Six String Blues is more than a concert—it’s a journey through the roots, the soul, and the enduring spirit of the blues guitar. A must-see for any music lover!

WORKSHOP: Accordion Books & Beyond
Aug

WORKSHOP: Accordion Books & Beyond

WORKSHOP
Accordion Books and Beyond
with Sue Wood

Saturday 23rd of August, 10am to 4pm

Artists love accordion, or concertina, books because you can turn the pages just like a traditional book or stand the book up and spread it out so all the pages are visible. Accordion books are simple to make and require no sewing.

In this workshop we will start by making an accordion book with a hard cover and watercolour paper pages. Then we will take the paper folding skills you have just acquired and make a flag book, a variation that is a perfect structure for assembling individual pages into a book form.

About Sue: “I have been a teacher for longer than I care to admit. I originally trained as a high school teacher, have taught for TAFE and community organisations, and was an art history academic for many years. There’s nothing better than introducing someone to new ideas and new skills and watching them flourish. My early workshop teaching had a textile focus, particularly free machine embroidery. These days my teaching is mostly in the areas of bookmaking, mixed media and design development.”

Visit Sue’s website for more information: paddocknotes.com

Cost: $100pp
This includes all materials and morning tea. Please bring your own lunch.
At the end of the workshop you will have a 20cm square accordion book with 185gsm Arches watercolour pages and an A6 flag book with bamboo printmaking paper pages.

Bookings Essential by 12noon on Thursday 14th of August.

LIVE COMEDY: Andy High Comedy Presents "Ok, Boomer!"

Andy High Comedy Presents
”Ok, Boomer!”

Friday 11th of July at 7:30pm

Following a successful run at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Andy High takes his show “OK, Boomer!” on the road. Andy has assembled a vibrant line-up of local ‘up and coming’ comedians, so you can enjoy an unforgettable night of laughs, stories and life lessons right here in Cootamundra.

Featuring Headliner Samwise Hemmings

This show dives headfirst into the increasingly confusing world we all share. With many questions about the world, these comedians deliver their unique take on modern life’s absurdities. With witty storytelling and a cast of talented local and regional comedians, expect everything from nostalgic anecdotes, razor-sharp takes on modern life and surreal absurdities. Whether you’re here for laughs or life lessons, this show promises an evening of entertainment that proves, at least in Andy's case, older isn't always wiser.

Who is Andy High?

Andy is a 64-year-old comedian from the NSW South Coast, and is proof that growing older doesn’t mean growing up. Born in the UK and sent to Australia in 1988 as a bicentennial 'gift' from the Queen, Andy’s comedy reflects a life lived with one foot in the past and the other stuck in a present he’s still figuring out. Andy’s humour is fueled by the hilarious tension between his youthful self-image and the reality of his bathroom mirror. Runner-up in RAW Comedy in Wollongong in 2019, NSW State Finalist 2023 and Australia’s Funniest Boomer finalist in 2024, Andy’s accolades speak to his ability to connect with audiences of all ages.
