We are pleased to welcome Nautanki Theatre to present their original production “Ten Years to Home”. Based in Parramatta, Nautanki Theatre is an artistic platform for South Asian talent and creates contemporary theatre works infused with South Asian content and aesthetics.

“Ten Years to Home” was written by Sonal Moore. Sonal is a lawyer by day, and a writer by night and she knows which she prefers. Sonal has been writing short plays since 2004 and has had her short plays produced around the world, in festivals around Australia, in the USA, India, Dubai, and France. “Ten Years to Home” premiered in 2019 and is an exploration of Sonal’s parents’ story set against the political climate of Australia and India in the 1960s and the richness of the two cultures in which her family now lives.

About the Show: ‘Ten Years to Home’ tells the true story of Rushikesh (Rushi) and Vasant Sheth, who migrated from Mumbai, India to Melbourne, Australia in 1959.  Initially planned as a four-year stay due to Rushi’s work transfer, the stay was extended multiple times, ultimately transforming into a new life for their family. The narrative unfolds through the lens of their daughter Sonal, who was born during their time in Australia, exploring the intertwined lives of three generations of the Sheth family against the backdrop of significant social and cultural shifts.

"Whether or not you come from a migrant family, this play is, at its core, a story about the compromises we make for the people we love, told with warmth and authenticity, which is something we can all enjoy." - Ten Years to Home - Review by Sherene B. Mitchell, 2 October 2024, The 4th Wall Reviews (Nautanki Theatre in association with KXT-Bakehouse: Ten Years to Home- Review by Sherene B. Mitchell)
