School Holiday Performance:
“Home Among the Gum Trees”
Friday 17th of April at 11am
Doors open at 10:30am
Presented by Gerard Cafe
“Home among the Gum Trees” is a one-man show with Australiana themes, designed for family audiences, which makes for great school-holiday entertainment. With an elaborate set and plenty of props, the show draws on our history to reflect on all of the elements that make Australia a good home. The crowd interaction flows thick and fast as people, usually children, are chosen from the audience to participate in the action on stage, bringing to life scenes from our nation’s past.
Gerard Cafe began singing bush ballads and calling bush dances over thirty years ago. Scenarios were developed that involved on-stage audience participation, and a one-hour presentation called “Australian Folklore” toured to schools around Australia for over 10 years. Over time a second show called “To Federation and Beyond” was developed, then a third show “We’re all Australians now”. This led to a total of seventeen years of touring, bringing history, education and entertainment to school children around Australia, especially in regional areas. Elements of these shows have been brought together in this new presentation, “Home Among the Gum Trees.”
