Festival of Turtles - Classical Music Concert

Festival of Turtles
Classical Music Concert
Featuring “Kurrajong Ensemble”

Wednesday 8th of May, 6:30pm for a 7pm start
Tickets: Adults $25pp Students $5pp

Kurrajong Ensemble will present a varied programme of music from the 18th century to the present day. For the C18th music Fran and Keith will be using flutes which are exact replicas of the instruments used at the time and have an entirely different sound from modern instruments. The difference between the modern instruments and the C18th ones is enormous - most people who play one don't also play the other, because of the big differences in both technique and musical gesture required … Fran and Keith were among the pioneers of this in Australia.

The salon music of the C19th provides some beautifully crafted repertoire from a time when most people played an instrument and would play together as recreation. This music is deceptively easy-listening on one level but surprisingly well crafted, fun to play, and sometimes flashy. Fran has composed some new works for Kurrajong Ensemble and we will present at least one of these in the concert.

The TACC Bar will be open to purchase drinks from 6:30pm and during intermission. Light nibbles will be provided during intermission.

Tickets will be available at the door as long as they have not sold out.

An Interactive Detective Story, told with Puppetry, Where the Kids Help Solve the Case!

The story begins with strange disappearances from Mrs Mavis Hooley’s home. Something has just gone missing and it is nowhere to be found. Mrs Hooley has been looking everywhere. But it’s not just today. Every day a new thing seems to disappear. Little things: clothes pegs, a ball of wool. It’s troubling at first, but then the thief takes it one step too far.

Mavis calls in a Detective to investigate. A stake out is required. In the dead of night, the Detective indeed finds something peculiar.... The children’s role is to help him solve the mystery.

The performance also has education resources and extension activities available for preschool and primary school students.

About Little Wing Puppets

We are an Australian Puppetry Company specialising in Children's Theatre. Since 2006, we have presented over one thousand shows and hundreds of workshops in every state and territory of Australia, as well as overseas. We believe that young people deserve equal access to the arts, wherever they live, and so we have taken our work to some of Australia’s most remote communities. We have an extensive teaching program, and have co-created work with thousands of young people in regional areas. We know that we can help shape young people’s lives by igniting their imaginations. This is a great joy and responsibility. It drives us to continue to make exceptional theatre that speaks to young people, makes them laugh, and tells important stories.

Artistic Director Jenny Ellis has been a puppeteer for over 25 years, and has a vibrant team of independent artists that work collaboratively to create the shows. Jenny has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Puppetry from the Victorian College of the Arts and was mentored by master shadow puppeteer Richard Bradshaw, as part of the national Jump Mentoring program. She was also awarded a major fellowship by the Mike Walsh Foundation to research contemporary puppetry in Europe in 2012.  Jenny completed the one-year program at the Helikos School for International Theatre Creation in Italy in 2014. The Mermaid's Daughter, her show with Company Gongoma, won the Melbourne Fringe Festival Award for The Best School Holiday Program 2008

Tickets $15 for adults and $2 for students
Ticket includes light afternoon tea at the end of the concert.

My students will play a duet and solo, featuring piano, flute, trumpet and euphonium.

Following this there will be the stunning sounds of the Cootamundra Town Band Inc. combined with Junee Town Band. The bands will have recently played at the Leeton Outback Band Spectacular on November 11/12 as the combined band. They will also have joined a gathering of ~150 musicians from Sydney and surrounding Riverina towns culminating in a massed band concert on the Saturday night.

Other guests this year will be the Young Regional Conservatorium Brass Ensemble with members from Temora, Young and Cootamundra. It is lovely to showcase this all brass sound as well as welcome musicians from neighbouring towns, conducted by Mark Brooker from the YRC. Not only are there individual instrumentalists but stirring sounds from the combined concert band (which includes woodwind) and brass only sound! Such a treat!

ABOUT THE RIVERINA COMEDY CLUB
Since bursting onto the scene as a 2015 National Finalist at the Deadly Funny Awards at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Wagga Wagga born stand-up comedian Dane Simpson and his wife Eleanor have always felt passionately about building the local comedy scene. So, Riverina Comedy Club was born.

Dane & Eleanor started Riverina Comedy Club from scratch, using old DJ speakers and a wonky mic stand in an open beer garden. Since then, the Riverina Comedy Club has grown exponentially, from having 5 reluctant local people performing at the first show to having more than 65 regional comedians in their regular rotation. Riverina Comedy Club is now a monthly comedy show in Wagga Wagga.
