History

Research into the project which was to become The Arts Centre began in the 1990s when the Cootamundra Amateur Dramatic Arts Society Inc. (CADAS) looked at several possible locations to house a standalone theatre to host live dramatic performance. After examining various options in the town over the years - including the old hospital laundry and the Westpac bank building - the old complex at 18-22 Wallendoon Street was first examined in 2002 as a possible site for investment. As research continued the scope of the project broadened; the opportunity was identified to establish an across-the-board multi-disciplinary Arts facility, constructed by the community for the community. The vision became the union of the strong but segmented arts groups in the town, which together would be better able to compete for investment funds which had traditionally gone almost solely into sporting facilities.

2014

Cootamundra Creative Arts and Cultural Centre took on the contract of providing Cootamundra with an accredited Visitors Information Centre. It was fantastic to have full time staff to greet visitors and to organise events and bookings. Due to financial pressures, the VIC was removed in 2018. A number of long weekend breakfasts were held as fundraisers during those years to keep the centre open. Great food, beautiful spot!

Residencies and partners

In 2017, the Tin Shed theatre and TACC centre hosted Murmuration, Australia’s pioneering integrated performance company based in Western Sydney. Working with a collective of interdisciplinary professional artists with and without disability, we collaborate with each artist’s unique perspective, physicality and lived experiences, to create engaging and thought-provoking arts and entertainment.

Days Like These was a one month residency where fifteen members of their team lived in Cootamundra and created a stunning performance piece.

In partnership with Murmuration, The Arts Centre Cootamundra created Ripple Effect, an eighteen month inclusive journey of three workshops and a great day of presentation

Following on with Murmuration & grant from Create NSW, Return To The River featuring a local dance artist, Ange French was produced and performed at TACC in 2019.
