The BlueScope Youth Orchestra has been the premier performing ensemble of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music for the past 35 years. The Orchestra provides performance opportunities and orchestral training to the youth of the Illawarra region and surrounding areas. It currently has 35 players aged 12 to 19 years of age, conducted by Nigel Edwards. Each year the Orchestra tours regionally within NSW, or Australia, and every third year internationally. The Orchestra performs regularly within Wollongong and surrounding areas, often bringing together other musical groups and societies to share concerts.

Our ‘Celebrate ’21 Tour’ will see the Orchestra perform some well-known classical dances such as Brahms Hungarian Dance No.5, Dvorak Slavonic Dance No.4, a series of Brahms Waltzes, the famous Waltz of the Flowers from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet, dances from French composer Poulenc’s Suite Francais for Piano, Offenbach’s Can Can, and a compilation arrangement of film composer Ennio Morricone’s music, in tribute to his passing last year.

The Orchestra gets it’s unique name from BlueScope, a steel company in the Illawarra, who has sponsored the Orchestra at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music for the past 35 years, making it the longest arts sponsorship in Australia.

This concert is a fundraiser for The Arts Centre Cootamundra and Cootamundra Strings. Thank you for your support.
